Course Title: Gender Responsive Approaches with Girls and Women: Gender and Culture

Course Description: This training will provide an overview of the dynamics of gender and culture as variables in behavioral health prevention, treatment and recovery processes. It will provide an overview of the impetus for and characteristics of the national movement to provide gender responsive and culturally competent services and interventions for females. Specifically, it will review:
o The impact of gender, culture and trauma on pathways into different systems.
o Overview of the intersections between gender, class, trauma, and mental health
o The distinctions between sex and gender as well as gender neutral and gender responsive services.
o The distinctions between diversity, cultural competence, multiculturalism and advocacy.
o Female psychological development and factors related to class, ethnicity and other culture-based influences.
o The science of connection and healing and how gender and culture impact connection and healing.
o Strategies for gender and cultural competence.
Learning Objectives:
Via pre-post measure, participants will be able to:
o Identify the difference between gender neutral and gender responsive
o Identify the unique characteristics of female development
o Identify the differences between diversity, cultural competence, multiculturalism and advocacy
o Identify gender and culturally competent strategies

- This event is Free under a grant from the Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (DMHAS)
*Refunds for the luncheon will not be made past 5 days prior to event. Refunds prior to this date will be subject to a $1.00 fee.

ATTENTION PREVENTION PROVIDERS: This is a training open to all, but especially for DMHAS funded prevention providers, SPF-SIG/BP and PFS grantees and their members, that should help you apply theory to your SPF-SIG/BP/PFS practice and steps if you are in these categories. If you are not a DMHAS-Funded prevention program provider nor receive these particular program/ grant funds, you are still welcome to attend as it will be relevant to your own work.
